Regarding the special account and efforts by
Governor Benson to remove funds.

The board of Directors of the NH Police Association have voted unanimously to fight any attempt by Governor Benson to use money from the Special Accounts of the NH Retirement System to balance the states budget.

The organization feels that this money belongs to the Local, County and State employees and is off limits to anyone who attempts to use this money for something other that it's intended purpose. The NHPA feels that the Governor does not have the legal right to use this money to balance the budget. The group also feel that it is unjust for him to even suggest it.

Governor Benson met several times with NHPA members prior to the election. He promised that he would not touch the benefits provided through the retirement system. He is now trying to take the money that is used to provide COLA's for our retired members. The Board does not feel that because the State no longer wants to fund its obligations to its retirees that it should be balanced on the backs of the County or Municipal employees.

House bill 302 which was rushed through the House is an attempt to split the retirement system to place all state employees in their own groups. The NHPA calls upon the Governor to stop his attempt to divide and concur.

The NHPA Board of Directors has and always will fight to protect the NH Retirement System
